New Books and Upcoming Event!

Hey Everyone!

We are back here at the shop with some exciting news. With a new week we have a new set of lovely titles here at the shop. There is always something new to stop in and check out and as always we love to point out some of the features here on the website. All of these can be found in the shop so feel free to stop in and check them out. 😀

In a city of ancient automata, strange spirits, and sleeping gods, a cleric of death finds his own life on the line in this vividly imagined fantasy murder mystery from the acclaimed author of The Bone Ships and Age of Assassins.

One of my Favorite authors right here. I’ve already read this and anyone who loves an imaginative fantasy world mixed with mystery and a quirky team of characters, this one is for you.

Our Rogue Fates

On the hunt for hidden treasure, two former best friends turned adversaries must put the past behind them if they hope to make it home.

Soon to be announced with another post, this will be the shop’s pick of the month for June. Anyone who picks this up or orders it between now and the end of June will receive an extra discount as we read this here in the shop starting on June 1st. 😀

The Franchise

Game of Thrones meets The Truman Show in this epic tale of a Hollywood-owned fantasy world where nothing is quite as it seems to the people who live and die at the studio’s whim.

Now onto the first event of Summer here at the shop.

June is National Audiobook month and we are celebrating it with our partner Libro.fm. If you love audio books, are interested or curious about them, and/or love crafts we are hosting an Audiobook afternoon on JUNE 14TH!

From 3pm-5pm we invite you to stop by the shop, take a seat, and listen to an audio book here with others as we celebrate the month in no better style than listening to someone read you a story. Don’t worry, you can listen to any book you like, there is no need to share more information than you like about what you are listening to, nor will you have to listen to anything anyone else is listening to if you do not like.

Plus! One great thing is that up to ten lucky participants will receive a free audiobook credit from the wonderful people at Libro.fm to be redeemed for any audiobook of your choice. Also one lucky person will have a chance to receive a full year of audiobooks free from Libro.fm. (12 audiobook credits).

Snacks and crafts will be provided where possible. We will have seating, puzzles, and other small projects to work with as possible. Feel free to bring in your own as you sit an enjoy listening to your story in the welcoming and cozy atmosphere here at Seymour’s!

This event is free, but please RSVP with the shop by stopping by, calling/texting in, or leaving a message here on the site or on Facebook. 😀

New Arrivals and Daily Updates

Hello All!

Welcome to the semi-new look here at Seymour’s Little Shop of Books’ website. I know it may feel like it’s been changed many times, and honestly it has, but for good reason. Building this thing up from the ground with bigger dreams than I can do myself has led to several attempts that really weren’t working out. Sites were quickly made with some AI help that just didn’t feel right to me, and others were made by hand with themes and background work that created way too many frustrations.

So, I’ve decided to do something that feels more like me and that is to build the site around two things. My enjoyment of writing and my enjoyment of sharing information about the store and the books inside of it. That is what you’ll find here on our site.

Semi-daily posts about things going on here at the shop, even if sometimes it is little more than ramblings about what the store gremlin is doing, and of course all the new books we bring in here at the shop or the ones we are looking most forward to. There will definitely be updates as new events are planned here at our growing shop and it will be the absolute best way to stay in touch and up to date with what we are doing.

That being said, here is a shoutout to our newest arrival here at the shop. Dungeon Crawler Carl has taken a lot of the world by storm and that has everything to do with the absolute outrageousness of the story in a time within our world where things feel so dark and dreary at times. From the first pages of book #1 there is little to hide how crazy some of this story can get and if you talk to any fan there is something within its pages that sucks you in and keeps you reading even if book #7 is over 800 pages long. We’ve had several people here at the shop who have spoken at length about how they don’t usually have the time to read or find as much enjoyment from it, but this series has pulled them in like no other.

Currently there are 8 books in this series and here at the shop we’ve made sure to bring in the newest edition. Right at the front of the store sits A Parade of Horribles waiting for someone to come in and bring it home.

Will that be you?

Need to start the series from the beginning? We’ve got you covered there as well.

Princess Donut awaits your attention and like any well-intentioned cat, you best heed that call or you’ll find every single thing on your counter knocked to the floor before you know it. Especially if it’s breakable.

Being an Indie Artist

Hello Everyone! It’s me again.

Today I felt compelled to put a little information up on the site about myself. Maybe within the many conversations I’ve had with so many of you this information has come out and it is well known, but to others it may not be common knowledge.

With the updating of our website, as it grows I like to put new sections in that will help shine a light on ways I am hoping that this little shop in Mount Joy, PA can grow and enrich others in this area and beyond. Today’s big update includes a new page with information for “local” indie artists. Now, I know this is a bookshop, so the vast majority of artists that would like their work here within our store are going to be authors, but I do not want to exclude those who do other kinds of art.

Because all art is important.

From those who complete fabric arts, to painters, photographers, writers, and musicians. All of it is important and we are better as a people and a society when those who look to create get a chance to display what they’ve created, and us who can, get the chance to enjoy that new creation brought into this world.

Myself, I’ve been a writer of fiction both short and novel length on and off for 10+ years now. (There are currently 5 novels and two collections with my name on them) I used to be a lot more consistent with it, but as with many people, Covid time took its toll. I’ve dabbled with it here and there over the last few years but have struggled to get that groove again for what feels like forever.

Just the other evening, here at the shop, I had a customer who picked up one of my short story collections. I’ve got them displayed by the register for anyone who comes in, though now I need to find my other copies. 😀

This wonderful person was willing to give my writing a chance and even asked for it to be signed. My rather unreadable signature later, it reminded me what it feels like to see someone pick up a piece of art that you created and give it a chance. Do I hope this person finds something within the words written inside that they enjoy? Absolutely. As an artist can it scare the wits out of you wondering if they’ll like it at all? ABSOLUTELY!

But it also reminds me that not everyone gets that chance. Being a writer and having helped many others both write and publish, I realized I hadn’t actually set a way for this shop to be able to help artists get that chance.

Here on our site I’ve put up a new page that gives a brief walk through of how we can move forward. As with anything with a new and starting business, things may change, but this is a way to start the process for those in this community.

Can and will everything be accepted into this shop? Probably not. There is limited space here in this small shop and not everything is the best fit for it either. This does not mean what you have made is not welcomed to be considered, and regardless of the decision to stock the item here for sale or not, we here at Seymour’s Little Shop of Books appreciate the time, effort, and skill you put in when you created it.

No matter what your skill level, from first time creator to lifetime practitioner, all of it is worth your time and effort. Never forget that because the world is a better place with art in it than it is without it.

Take Care,

Bill Seymour
